Bhopal: Congress high command limits Digvijay Singh’s Yatra

Bhopal: The fear of keeping former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh in the frontline in the state has started haunting the Congress party. The BJP had contested previous three Assembly elections calling Singh as ‘Bantadhaar’. The people have also responded in affirmative in support of BJP’s claim of Singh plunging the state into severe condition.

Congress leaders too fear that Singh’s image might come in the way of party’s prospects and they have put several restrictions on the political Yatra of Singh.

The announcement of Singh’s Yatra in all Assembly seats across the state has been limited now to only district headquarters. Singh, in an informal discussion with journalists here on Thursday, told that he would now visit only districts. He said there would be no meeting and press conference during the Yatra. No slogans hailing party leaders would be raised in the Yatra. The flags and banners will only have pictures of party’s national leaders during the Yatra.

Sources said Congress high command was not issuing permission for Singh to launch this Yatra. It was only after intervention by state Congress president Kamal Nath that Singh has been allowed to take out the Yatra just for formality. All leaders of Congress will now attend the Yatra so that the resentment against Singh, could not have adverse impact on election campaign of the party.
